Another Bamboo Trout Net

Our friends, Hillary and Keith, came by my shop this week for a visit. Hillary was picking up her new bamboo trout net that I just finished for her. Looks like a very happy angler, but she might need to wait for some better weather to try out her net.

Showing off her net bamboo trout net.
That’s a happy angler!

    • Hi Larry,

Thanks for the comments. Things have been busy in my shop lately…getting a few rods and nets finished before Christmas, and then starting to get ready for the winter fly fishing shows that we’ll be attending…Denver, CO in January, Pleasanton, CA in February, and Sandy, Utah in April.

      Happy holidays,

      Dave

  1. Dave… I enjoyed visiting with you and Mary Ann at the Williams’s dinner party the other night. During out conversation, we talked about substitutes for Pearsalls silks. You mentioned that you had found a substitute that you like but I can’t recall the name of it. I’m familiar with some Japanese brands and French that I’ve learned from the fly tyers on flymphforum.com. These guys all love the Pearsalls when tying the old wet fly and soft hackle patterns, but are also on the hunt for decent substitutes. You may find that the flymphforum has quite a bit of information about their searches. Recently, one of the members of the group, Carl Sanders, aka Oldhat…has done some interesting comparisons and shared his results. Carl is a past resident of Oregon and quite the historian as well.
If you wouldn’t mind sharing the name of the sub for Pearsalls, I’d appreciate it. I have only recently become interested in tying the old patterns, and don’t have any of the Pearsalls silks that the old patterns call for. I’m not that much of a traditionalist, so substitutes are fine with me.
I hope that I can get together on the water with you and Stephen one of these days when the weather is a little more agreeable.
Happy New Year to you and Mary Ann…
    Best,
    Ron
