New Switch Rod

I’ve just added a new light Switch Rod to my set of Bamboo Fly Rods that I build and offer for sale.  This one is a 10′  6″ – 3 piece/2 tip – 5 wt rod.  I had a great time designing the progressive taper and the cork grip section…got some great help from Chet and Bill at Bellingers with some design ideas and some custom machined reel seat hardware.  This rod casts a light line amazingly well.

This rod went to Paul from Idaho. Here is a short little video of Paul trying out his new Switch Rod. By the way…very nice casting stroke, Paul!

    • Hi Larry,

Good to hear from you. Yes, tapers for bamboo switch rods are few-and-far between as there are almost none published. I’ve actually been asked to write an article for PowerFibers Magazine (www.powerfibers.com) on bamboo switch rods for the upcoming October issue that will be be out in week or two. While I don’t share my exact taper in the article, I give enough information about my approach towards developing my taper for a 10′ 6″ 5 wt switch rod that you can probably get pretty close. I also share several of the challenges I’ve countered with building two-handed switch bamboo rods. Check out the article when it comes out. I would love to hear your thoughts, and answer any additional questions.

      Best Regards,

      Dave
