Fishing Bamboo on the Williamson River at Yamsi Ranch

I fished the Upper Williamson River at Yamsi Ranch in Southern Oregon this past weekend. John Hyde was a great host and we found lots of big Rainbows and Brookies. Hoopers with Pheasant Tail Nymph droppers were the most successful. How about this 24″ rainbow on a 7′ 6″ 5 wt Bamboo Rod!

Bamboo on the Owyhee River

I fished the Owyhee River last Sunday for a few hours.  The water was a little high for my preference and very off-colored but the fish were cooperative.  I fished my 9′ 0″  5 wt  EuroNymphing Rod.  Using a French Style technique with “slinky” indicators and 5X tippets, I landed 8 nice brown trout on size 20 black Zebra Midges and Size 18 Pheasant Tail Nymphs.  There were lots of hoppers out and I might have been one of the only anglers on the river who wasn’t fishing dries, but I had great success on my small dark nymphs fished in the riffles.  The fish I landed were between 12″ and 20″…very fat browns!  Too bad I didn’t have a camera with me, but here’s a photo from a previous trip of one of the big Owyhee Browns.

A tough day fishing!

I fished the North Fork of the Big Lost River two weeks ago…mixed success.  Here is a quick video of my day!

Hope you like it

Nice Cutthroat on the Salmon River

I drifted the Salmon River with Mary Ann yesterday.  We caught several nice cutthroat trout like this one.

My rod day at Silver Creek Outfitters in Sun Valley, Idaho

I was invited to be part of a “One Man Bamboo Rod Show” at the Sun Valley, Idaho store of Silver Creek Outfitters on August 6th.  Five hours of talking bamboo with interested fly fishermen was a blast.  Mary Ann joined in to give casting tips.  Here is a photo of my set-up outside the store with manager, Mike Murphy. Thanks to the Staff at Silver Creek Outfitters for making the show a success.
