Mary Ann and I will be heading down to Northern California for The Fly Fishing Show at the Alameda County Fairgrounds next weekend. I’ll have a booth at the show and Mary Ann will be teaching a couple of classes. This is a great show with a lot to see. If you’re in the bay area, I encourage you to check out the show…and stop by my booth and wiggle a few of my bamboo rods.

Great Guys in the Fly Fishing Industry
I attended the 2015 IFFF Fair in Bend, Oregon last week, and I wanted to highlight 3 great guys in the fly fishing industry who were also there. Mike Morin owns Cutthroat Leaders. Mike makes and sells furled leaders that are a tremendous match for bamboo fly rods, and I use his leaders as often as I can. Mike Avery is Snake River Net Company. He is a great craftsman and makes and sells custom nets and fly boxes. John Noble is Scaly Designs. John is a skilled artist and crafts wonderful and unique rod tubes and fly fishing art. I recommend them highly. Here are a few photos from their booths at the show this past week.
2015 International Federation of Fly Fishers Fair in Bend, Oregon
I’m excited to be at the 2015 annual fair of the International Federation of Fly Fishers in Bend Oregon this week. I’m teaching a class in “an Introduction to Bamboo Fly Rod Building” on Tuesday, and will have a booth at the vendor fair on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. There is so much to do, so please stop by if you’re in the area.
The 2015 Pleasanton, CA Fly Fishing Show
I just got back from The Fly Fishing Show in Pleasanton, CA last weekend where I had a booth. There were a few other bamboo rod guys there, Joe Bradley, Robert Bolt, TC Robertson, and it was great to catch up with them. I didn’t pay too much attention to what the graphite guys were showing off but I did notice that Echo is coming out with a line of fiberglass rods. I got a chance to cast their new fiberglass switch rod….it has the classic feel of a fiber glass rod…definitely not like bamboo but it was fun to cast. It’s nice to see something else out in the industry other than ultra-fast graphite. Here is a photo of me at my booth at the show:
Painting of one of my catches from this year!
A few months ago I posted the following photo of a great cutthroat I caught on a small spring creek in central Idaho:
I didn’t realize it but this photo turned out to be inspiration for a great painting created by Larry Harris, a frequent follower of my BLOG. Larry donated this painting to the Catskill Rodmakers Gathering Auction last month in New York. As it turns out, Larry’s painting sold in the auction and helped raise money for the Catskill Fly Fishing Museum. That’s pretty cool to see that and ‘Great Job’ to Larry. Here is a photo of the painting Larry did, along with a great bamboo rod that Larry made himself:
